Granular dampers in microgravity: sharp transition between modes of operation. Sharp transition between modes of operation in order to provide preliminary results, which can guide a future experimental investigation based on physical scale-modelling. Granular materials are complex multi-particle ensembles in which macroscopic properties. Microgravity research is concerned with the effects of reduced gravitational forces on physical, chemical, and biological phenomena. The scientific disciplines affected by gravity include fundamental physics, fluid mechanics and transport phenomena, materials science, .   Excavators are large earth-moving machines, able to efficiently dig granular materials for industrial purposes. During digging, contact forces between particles and the excavator bucket can cause wear and tear, especially on the bucket's teeth and cutting edge.
